InfoDev-Security.net
This web site is sponsored by the infoDev project of the World Bank.
The web site has been set up to focus on issues of information technology security for developing countries. The first product, available for use by developing countries, is the Information Technology Security Handbook. The authors of the handbook, George Sadowsky, James X. Dempsey, Alan Greenberg, Barbara J. Mack, and Alan Schwartz collectively have very substantial experience in information technology, computer and network security, public policy issues relating to the Internet, and transfer of information and communication technologies to developing countries.
Please note that the material in the Handbook is copyrighted by the World Bank, and that a significant amount of material has been extracted with permission from works copyrighted by O'Reilly and Associates. This material may be used freely in developing countries, but there are significant restrictions in its reproduction and/or dissemination in developed countries. Additional information regarding permitted usage can be obtained from contact@infodev-security.net.
We are also providing an initial way in which readers of this web site can ask questions, provide responses, and in general share information about security issues. We will initially facilitate discussions of security issues that are of interest or concern to people in developing countries. We'll start by offering a single discussion group. Depending upon how many threads of interest develop, we'll move to a more general presentation in which the threads can be read and posted to separately.
We hope that this site will be useful for you, and we hope that you will be able to give us feedback with the mechanism provided. We encourage you to participate and tell us how the site can evolve to serve better the needs of all in the developing world. In addition to using the list or lists sponsored by the site, you may send your comments to contact@infodev-security.net.
We are extremely grateful to seco, the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs of the Government of Switzerland, for its complete funding of both the creation of the Information Technology Security Handbook and the hosting and maintenance of this web site and the discussions hosted here. The Government of Switzerland has been a major supporter of infoDev since its inception, and should be recognized as a significant contributor to helping to spread the benefits of information and communication technologies for the benefit of the developing world.
